Structural simplicity is not necessarily visual simplicity. Modular devices are structurally simple, but often physically bulky. MacBook power bricks are visually simple, but structurally too complex to be repaired.

Philosophically, structural simplicity is the one to prioritise. Form follows function.

Designing a webstead around the avoidance of CSS leads to a reduction in bloat and an improvement in structure.

It also makes plain sense. Visitors are already setting their preferences, whether font size, color theme, or window width. I’m just extending this way of thinking to style sheets, which can be customised thru browsers.

I’m happy to have my webstead listed in the No-CSS Club. Some day, this blog too will wave goodbye to cascades.

Bing is delisting my webstead — a search for Robert Blinov does not index robertblinov.net on Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yahoo.

That’s how 4chan is treated — even Cahlen Lee and Infowars have not been delisted!

The command line is quick, simple, and resource-efficient. Whenever reasonable, I use it instead of a GUI.

It is now also a place to read my posts thru the seventies-era text-based protocol Finger — a nice backup option to have in case something happens to this website.

The icons are jelly and that’s annoying:

Oh, there’s a portal in the fountain at Apple Park.

The Mac is moving to Apple-made processors for top performance. This is good news.

iOS & iPadOS apps run on the Mac without any changes needed. Catalyst was a short-term thing.

Instead of credits at the end there’s an assurance that Apple took care so nobody would get infected. Sign of the times:

The time has come for my website’s code to be cleaned up. Before I refreshed it today, it was a rusty old attic with no sense of order at all. The only reasonable place to have this kind of code is a Halloween website party.

Its incomprehensibility obstructed me from improving my website. While there are no major changes in the design, there is now a starting point for going forward.

What’s new
All colors are specified in RGB;
margins and paddings are in sync with each other as well as being noted correctly;
the amount of styles has been reduced;
code is now easier to read.

The first website in the world with “prefers-color-scheme: dark”

As Apple begins the dark mode revolution, it wants it to be everywhere. I love dark mode, and I agree. A couple of days ago they released a new version of the Safari Developer Preview with support of the CSS feature “prefers-color-scheme: dark”. There is only one website in the world that supports it, and I happen to really like it.

It’s really simple to take advantage of:
